The demonstration project 'Weeks systems: choice in function of profitability and labour' for the Sustainable Agricultural Development Department of the Ministry of the Flemish Community. The project started on 1 June 2014 and ends on 31 May 2016.
The objectives of this project are to obtain better profitability of a pig farm by applying the most suitable soaking system on the farm with attention to profitability and labour efficiency.
Project partners are Inagro (Rumbeke-Beitem), KU Leuven|Thomas More (Geel), Diergezondheidszorg Vlaanderen (DGZ), Proef- en Vormingsinstituut Limburg (PVL in Bocholt), Algemeen Boerensyndicaat (ABS) and Vives (Roeselare). This demonstration project is co-financed by the European Union and the Flemish government's Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.
As part of this demonstration project, a large-scale survey of Flemish pig farmers was carried out. Furthermore, a number of demo trials are under way to examine the impact of different weaning ages on the zootechnical performance of piglets and fattening pigs.
