The aim of this project is to raise awareness among livestock farmers on the importance of using quality drinking water for animals through demonstration and sensitisation. In addition, this project will also provide livestock farmers with a set of tools to work with to judge whether the quality of the available water is sufficient. Because drinking water quality and treatment can be considered across animal species, this project focuses on both the importance of drinking water quality for cattle, pigs and poultry.
The focus of this demonstration project is on
- pooling and exchange of knowledge on water quality and water treatment
- demonstration of treatment techniques in practice
- targeted communication, sensitisation and education towards livestock production and policy.
Wide dissemination of existing knowledge around water quality and water treatment techniques by
- introduction by training on the use of quick strips for water disinfection and calculation tool on acidification for changing water sources
- raising awareness of the cost of an (alternative) water source by introducing a water cost calculator
- at least 10 technical data sheets of commonly used techniques with practical testimonials
- training days and press articles.
