Mestmatch wants to increase the efficiency with which nutrients from liquid animal manure are applied. Initially, we do this by raising awareness about manure analyses and the importance of a reliable sample result so that the grower knows which nutrients are applied. We also aim to increase the efficiency of the nutrients applied when applying slurry. We do this through demonstrations, communication and publications aimed at making growers aware of the degrees of freedom they have when applying slurry:
- Through the choice of the optimal administration technique and timing of administration.
- By matching the nutrient composition and expected mineralisation kinetics of the slurry to the crop uptake curve.
- Using additives to better match nitrogen delivery from slurry to the crop uptake curve.
Through continuous communication and targeted dissemination, we want to bring about a change in how growers think about slurry. From a product that should be marketed as maximally as possible to avoid processing costs to a raw material that can be marketed in a targeted way with minimal risk of leaching losses.
