Grass power: The power of grassland as a lever for a more efficient nitrogen cycle on the dairy farm

This project aims to support dairy farmers in making the right choice regarding different aspects of forage harvesting of grass, including grass clover and productive grass herbs, with a focus on nutrient management. This will be done through monitoring and measuring the gross nitrogen efficiency of plots with known differences in fertilisation, mowing frequency, grass mixtures, etc.

In addition, the same assessment will also be made at farm level, including the cost of grassland management and the valuation (in EUR) of the grass when incorporated into the ration. Hooibeekhoeve will communicate these data widely during the project through, among other things, grassland updates. We will communicate the knowledge from the current grassland research throughĀ a webinarĀ present to the sector. Both in the West and East of the country, the project partners willĀ A Grass Day on a practical farmĀ organise. These Grass Days will then cover various aspects around grassland management from sowing to ensiling. Finally,Ā a consultant toolĀ be worked out with which data, key figures and advice can be collected and elaborated in a uniform manner.
