Economic and technical key figures in the modern pig farm

The development of these web pages was done as part of the demonstration project 'Economic and technical key figures in the modern pig farm' for the Sustainable Agricultural Development Department of the Ministry of the Flemish Community. The project started on 1 October 2011 and ended on 31 December 2013.

The objectives of this project were better valorisation/profitability of a pig farm by highlighting economic and technical key figures. This will allow better and more sustainable use of the production potential present in sows and fattening pigs.

Project partners were KILTO (Geel), KU Leuven|Thomas More (Geel), Hogeschool Gent, Proef- en Vormingsinstituut Limburg (PVL in Bocholt), Vlaams Varkensstamboek, Vives (Roeselare) and Boerenbond. This demonstration project was co-financed by the European Union and the Flemish government's Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.

As part of this demonstration project, a number of demo trials, mainly in practical farms, were carried out. In addition, discussion and study days were held, a brochure was written and farm visits were carried out.

The project focused on three technical key figures, specifically the production number in sows, pen density in the piglet battery and feed conversion in fattening pigs.
